Anticipation Guide Reactions

What is your opinion (do you agree or disagree) to the following statements?
1.  In a court room, a person is always guilty until proven innocent.
2.  Racism and prejudice isn't a problem today.
3.  There are consequences to every decision we make.
4.  Peer pressure is always negative.
5.  Discrimination can occur because of age.
6.  Writing in a journal is a good way to express feelings.
7.  People who commit crimes come from broken homes and dysfunctional families.
Explain why.  You need to respond to each statement.  So you should have at least 7 sentences in your reaction.  One sentence per statement.

Book Pass - Choose Your Book For Literature Circles

This year, we are going to be in literature circle groups, 3-5 people.  I have chosen 4 books for you to look through today, and decide which book you might be interested in reading.  The book choices for this 1st quarter are:

The Gun by Paul Langon,

Monster by Walter Dean Myers,

 Swallowing Stones by Joyce McDonald,
and The Trouble with Lemons by Daniel Hayes.

While looking at each of these books, look at the title, read the back of the book, read a few pages of the beginning of the book, and decide which book you might be interested in reading.  Comment on this post what book you might want to read and why you feel that way.

Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year and the New READ 180 Blog!!

First, I hope everyone had a wonderful summer, and is ready for this exciting new school year.  I know I have spent time this summer trying to figure out how to better make READ 180 FUN!!

Second, I want to introduce this new BlogSpot where I hope we can chat about what is interesting about the stories and books we are reading in this classroom.  This is something new, and I hope that it helps you as students enjoy reading books more and INSPIRES you to read books you wouldn't otherwise have read and hopefully if you don't have time to read all of the books that you are introduced to here you will read them later on when you can.

For the first few posts, we will be doing them in class, so you can get to the BlogSpot comment section.  Then starting at the end of September or beginning of October we will be individually posting during some of our Friday class time.

WELCOME BACK and I hope you are just as EXCITED about the new school year as I am!!
